Boys’ basketball: Dorsey stays hot in City Section

Los Angeles Dorsey ended the regular season with a 16-point rout of Coliseum League champion Crenshaw and continued its improved play Thursday night with a 75-60 victory over Sylmar in an opening-round game of the City Section Division I playoffs.

Dillon Biggs scored 13 points, Donald Muepo had 12 points and Winfred Clark 10 for the No. 6-seeded Dons (13-7), who will face No. 4 Washington on Tuesday. Washington defeated Locke, 92-48. Alex Moreno had 22 points for Sylmar.

Top-seeded Woodland Hills Taft defeated Hollywood, 111-29. The Toreadors will face Cleveland in the quarterfinals. Cleveland defeated Fremont, 64-62, with Kody Riewthong making a shot in the final 10 seconds.

Palisades earned a quarterfinal game against Crenshaw with a 75-35 win over South Gate. Ilya Ilyayev had 20 points and Adam Griffin 18 points. Crenshaw defeated L.A. Jordan, 93-44. Fairfax defeated Birmingham, 78-68, with Oliver Mills scoring 18 points and Chaunce Hill getting 14 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks. Fairfax will face No. 2 Westchester in the quarterfinals.

In Division II, Verdugo Hills’ Chris Dees poured in 41 points and had 20 rebounds in an 81-61 win over Venice. Top-seeded University defeated Marshall, 62-49. David Nwaba had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Tsog Altankhuyag made five of six from three-point range. El Camino Real defeated Los Angeles, 66-39. Temjae Singleton scored 18 points.

In Division III, top-seeded Chatsworth defeated Monroe, 69-33. Jason Monje scored 15 points. Grant defeated San Fernando, 82-30. Gurgen Harutyunyun scored 24 points and made six three-point shots.
