Baseball: Birmingham wins season opener

Kevin Torres came in with the bases loaded and two out in the fifth and got the save in Birmingham’s 4-2 win over Verdugo Hills on Friday in a game called in the sixth inning because of rain.

Steven Rodriguez was two for three and Nick Acosta had two doubles and two RBIs for Birmingham. Pedro Santoyo picked up the pitching victory.
