Baseball: Paraclete pulls out win over Montclair Prep

Two of the top teams in Southern Section Division 5, Van Nuys Montclair Prep and Lancaster Paraclete, engaged in an Alpha League game that had plenty of suspense.

Montclair Prep (8-5, 2-1) tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh, but Paraclete (14-2, 3-0) won it in the bottom of the seventh, 3-2, on an RBI single by Sean Bozigian.

Max Fried struck out 14 in 6 1/3 innings for Montclair Prep. Cade Brummer threw a complete game for Paraclete.

In the Valley Mission League, Alberto Flores struck out four, walked none and sparked Granada Hills Kennedy to a 4-0 victory over Sylmar. He’s 6-1 this season. Van Nuys defeated Canoga Park, 13-3. Israel Zuniga was four for four.

In the Del Rey League, Bishop Amat won its 10th consecutive game with a 3-2 win over St. Paul. Jay Anderson had a two-run triple and Brandon Castenada drove in the winning run with an RBI single in the seventh.

In the OC Nissan tournament, Palm Desert defeated Newhall Hart, 5-0, to advance to Wednesday’s 6 p.m. championship game against Irvine Woodbridge at Windrow Park in Irvine. Brooks Kriske allowed three hits and struck out nine to improve to 6-0. Cody Kabeary was three for three.

In the Camino Real League, L.A. Cathedral (14-2, 5-0) defeated Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 15-3. Jaime Figueroa went three for four with two doubles. Joshua Ibarra and David Sanchez each had three hits.
