The 16-team National Classic begins on Monday in Orange County, with two San Fernando Valley schools, West Hills Chaminade and Chatsworth, expected to make a strong run at the title.

La Puente Bishop Amat and Placentia El Dorado also figure to be title contenders. Schools need lots of pitching to reach Thursday’s championship game at Cal State Fullerton.
