Effective this coming season, the City Section is changing the way schools are placed in football divisions. Come June, a football advisory committee will evenly split the close to 60 schools that play football and put them in Division I or II while using Calpreps.com as a source of expertise.

The Interscholastic Athletic Committee gave its approval earlier this month for the changes. The realignment will occur every two years. Only the bottom five schools put in Division I or the top five schools placed in Division II will have the opportunity to appeal their placement.

Also, coaches will no longer be involved in the playoff seeding meeting.

The changes will increase balance to the playoffs. In previous years, Division II has had almost double the teams compared to Division I. And schools will no longer be allowed to choose which divisions they want to play in. It will be based on past and current performance.
