Baseball: Justin Garza improves to 9-0 for Bonita

When the season began, few had heard of junior pitcher Justin Garza of La Verne Bonita. Now that he’s 9-0 and has walked only six batters in 59 innings, college recruiters have become as impressed as opposing batters.

Garza struck out six, walked none and allowed six hits on Wednesday in a 5-1 Hacienda League victory over Diamond Bar and Cal State Fullerton-bound Kenny Mathews. Bonita (19-3, 7-0), ranked No. 1 in Southern Section Division 3, got RBI singles from Thomas Castro and Mark Lindsay during a three-run first inning.

In the Golden League, Quartz Hill defeated Littlerock, 12-2. Jack Sheeley was three for three with five RBIs. Andrew Rabiej threw a no-hitter.

In the Sunset League, Henry Owens struck out 12 to help Huntington Beach Edison defeat Newport Harbor, 9-1.

Lake Forest El Toro won its seventh consecutive game with a 5-0 win over Dana Hills. Tyler Brashears threw a six-hitter and improved to 9-1. Logan Roberts hit a two-run home run.

Tesoro edged San Clemente, 2-1. Kagan Richardson retired the last 15 batters and finished with a two-hitter to outduel Braden Riddle. Eric Hutting and Kris Paulino had back-to-back doubles to break the 1-1 tie in the sixth.

In the Channel League, Dos Pueblos handed Santa Barbara its first league defeat, 10-6. Steve Reveles, Kyle Richardson and Joe Huthsing each had three hits. Simi Valley (16-6) won its 10th consecutive game, beating Ventura St. Bonaventure, 4-2. Nick Vigo, Cole Acheronti and Cody Ramer had two hits each.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated Burbank, 8-0. Matt Lathuras threw the shutout. Nick Huynh had a single, double and triple. Encino Crespi defeated La Mirada, 8-2. Nick Morton had three hits. St. Francis defeated St. Paul, 4-2.

In the Foothill League, Newhall Hart defeated Canyon Country Canyon, 13-4. Luke Persico had three hits. Golden Valley defeated Saugus, 5-3. Anthony San Miguel had three RBIs. Valencia defeated West Ranch, 2-1. Trey Williams and A.J. Balta hit home runs in the first inning.

In the Alpha League, Van Nuys Montclair Prep (15-6, 7-2) defeated Downey Calvary Chapel, 9-2. Sean Adler struck out eight in four innings. Josh Brodsky and Max Fried hit home runs
