As the weather heats up, so does Covina High’s Remontay McClain, the defending state champion in the 100 and 200 meters.

On Thursday at the Valle Vista League finals, McClain equalled his life-time best in the 100 with a clocking of 10.35 seconds, best this year in the state. He also won the 200 in 20.92.

One of McClain’s rivals, BeeJay Lee of West Covina, won the 100 meters in 10.36 seconds at the Hacienda League finals.

At the Mission League finals, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame sophomore Khalfani Muhammad won the 100 in 10.61 and the 200 in 21.37.

In the girls’ 200, Louisville’s LaToya Williams ran a state-leading 23.89 seconds.
