I had never seen Andrew Elffers of Pasadena Maranatha pass the football until Thursday, and I was impressed with his solid arm.

As a sophomore last season, he passed for 3,328 yards and 37 touchdowns. The team has a new coach in former Whittier Christian defensive coordinator Peter Karavedas and is switching to a West Coast offense, so he’s having to make an adjustment, but that’s probably the most impressive part of his makeup. He’s very coachable and very mature for his age.

He’s certainly an intriguing college prospect with a 3.5 grade-point average.

He was competing in a passing competition at El Monte Arroyo. Another quarterback to watch was 6-4, 210-pound Henry Omana from Diamond Bar. He passed for 1,298 yards last season as a junior.
