Football: Chaminade’s new blue field is an eye opener

Coach Ed Croson gave me a quick tour of the new blue-turf field at West Hills Chaminade on Tuesday, and let me say that if you are groggy in the morning, just show up at the field and you’ll immediately have no trouble opening your eyes.

‘When you’re flying in from Burbank [Airport], the stadium just jumps out at you,’ Croson said.

It’s patterned after the stadium at Boise State.

The myth that birds might crash into the field thinking it’s water hasn’t come into play.

Southern California fans will get a chance to see the stadium on television because Prime Ticket has selected the Chaminade-Alemany game on Sept. 23 as its game of the week.
