In the City Section, schools that are traveling for scrimmages have to pay for their own buses. Or players can travel by car with parents and coaches providing transportation.

‘It is what it is,’ said Reseda Coach Alonso Arreola, who will be using $700 of fundraising money to pay for two buses to transport the varsity and junior varsity to a scrimmage at El Camino Real on Friday.

North Hollywood could only afford to pay for one bus on Thursday, so after the varsity players were dropped off at Harvard-Westlake, the bus returned to campus to pick up the junior varsity.

The LAUSD will pay for buses during the season, but there could be trouble later in the year unless donations are made to help pay for transportation cuts. The transportation budget took a $325,000 hit, and schools are required to use 3% less buses this year, according to Commissioner Barbara Fiege.
