There were 41 matchups this past weekend involving private schools playing public-school football teams, and the results were not good for public schools. The record was 34-7 in favor of the privates.

Among the big schools, Mission Viejo lost to Don Bosco Prep, Tesoro was routed by Santa Margarita, Orange Lutheran took care of Los Osos, Corona Centennial lost to St. Bonaventure, and St. John Bosco knocked off Lakewood.

The public-school victors were El Segundo over Mary Star, South Hills over St. Monica, Citrus Valley over Xavier Prep, Don Lugo over Ontario Christian, Laguna Beach over Webb, Ocean View over Santa Ana Calvary Chapel, and Twentynine Palms over Aquinas.

I’m not ready to make any conclusions other than it was a bad week for the public schools. Remember, last weekend, Carson beat Mater Dei and Venice topped Harvard-Westlake.

But once the private schools start facing each other, the alumni will be in a frenzy.
