Boys’ basketball: Muir (24-1) wins Pacific League championship

If you want to know which team has come out of seemingly nowhere to excel this season, it’s Pasadena Muir, which clinched its first Pacific League title in a decade with a 66-63 victory over Crescenta Valley.

The Mustangs (24-1, 13-0) received 17 points from Tevin Polk and 16 points apiece from Jelani Mitchell and Dion Nelson, completing an impressive turnaround under third-year Coach Gamal Smalley.

Etiwanda (25-1, 9-0) is heading for an unbeaten Baseline League championship after a 66-35 win over Alta Loma. Jordan McLaughlin scored 22 points and Sheldon Blackwell 10. Upland defeated Glendora, 53-51. Rancho Cucamonga defeated Los Osos, 64-54.

In the Moore League, Long Beach Poly (24-1, 11-0) defeated Long Beach Millikan, 90-42. Roschon Prince scored 26 points.

In the Alpha League, Nicholas Stover had 33 points and 12 rebounds in Windward’s 77-71 win over Campbell Hall. Aaron Holiday had 30 points and Cole Huff 29 points for Campbell Hall. Windward plays Pacific Hills on Thursday for the league title. Pacific Hills defeated Brentwood, 70-55. Brandon Taylor had 20 points. Tra Holder scored 18 and Leland King 17 for Brentwood, which trailed by only four points with five minutes left.

In the Foothill League, Canyon Country Canyon (22-3, 7-2) defeated Golden Valley, 64-49, with Clay Kasdorf scoring 28 points.

La Verne Damien (23-2, 9-0) clinched the Sierra League title with a 62-37 win over Charter Oak.

In the Marmonte League, Royal (19-6, 11-2) defeated Westlake, 67-60. Scott Woods had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Grant Lozoya had 16 points for Westlake.

In the Ocean League, Jordan Mathews scored 23 points in Santa Monica’s 63-52 win over Morningside. Beverly Hills upset Inglewood, 55-46, with Austin Mills scoring 24 points.

In the Trinity League, Xavier Johnson had 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead Mater Dei past Servite, 74-45. Isaac Hamilton scored 29 points in St. John Bosco’s 74-66 win over Santa Margarita. Orange Lutheran defeated JSerra, 66-51. Payton Banks had 24 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Darien Williams added 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Los Angeles Price knocked off Compton, ranked No. 1 in Division 2A, 79-71. Skylar Spencer had 14 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks. Price hosts La Verne Lutheran on Thursday night. Marcus LoVett Jr. had 29 points in Providence’s 69-63 win over Viewpoint.
