Two of the top teams in the Southern Section, Vista Murrieta and Palm Desert, split a doubleheader on Saturday.

In the first game, Tyler Russell, who was 9-1 last season, threw a complete game to help Vista Murrieta win, 5-4. He struck out seven and walked one to outduel Brooks Kriske. Vista Murrieta lost Cal State Fullerton commit Jeff Moberg with an ankle sprain.
