Boys’ basketball: Gardena Serra win 4AA title

Daddy Ugbede scored 32 points and Dakarai Tucker added 21 points to help Gardena Serra defeat La Verne Lutheran, 69-59, in the Division 4AA championship game.

It was the sixth section title in 23 years as head coach for Serra’s Dwan Hurt.

A key moment in the game was 6-10 Lutheran center Grant Jerrett getting called for his fourth foul with 1:32 left in the third quarter, forcing him to the bench until returning with 5:48 left. Lutheran trailed, 39-38. He couldn’t be aggressive on defense when he returned, and Ugbede took advantage, going inside again and again.
