Girls’ basketball: Summit at the top in Division 1A

Jillian Alleyne scored 17 points, grabbed 20 rebounds and blocked three shots as Fontana Summit won the Southern Section Division 1A championship with a 56-51 victory over Huntington Beach at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Brooklynn Jackson added 10 points and eight rebounds for the No. 1-seeded Skyhawks (28-3), who out-rebounded Huntington Beach 48-29 and had a 16-2 advantage in second-chance points. Summit led 42-36 after three quarters, but the Oilers came back to take a 46-45 lead on a pair of free throws by Maya Kennedy with 4:04 left.

Adrianna Brodie’s basket put Summit back on top four seconds later and the Skyhawks never trailed again. Paolo Roa’s putback tied it 51-51 with 1:08 remaining, but Alleyne answered with a three-point play to put Summit ahead to stay.

Kelsey Minato had 24 points and seven rebounds and Kennedy added 14 points and six rebounds for the third-seeded Oilers (25-5), who were trying to pull off their second straight upset after stunning second-seeded El Toro, 51-39, in the semifinals.
