Boys’ basketball: Grant leads 21-18 at halftime

In a matchup of the top two seeds, Van Nuys Grant leads Los Angeles Bell, 21-18, at halftime of the City Section Division III final at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The game was tied 9-9 after the first quarter, with neither team shooting accurately, but the top-seeded Lancers went on a 6-0 run to open the second quarter. Gor Plavchyan has seven points and Travis Wilson has four for Grant.

Angel Grimaldi has six points for second-seeded Bell and Mychal Deas has added five, including a rare four-point play when he was fouled after making a three-point shot for the Eagles’ first points of the game.

Both teams won their first three playoff games by an average of 23.0 points. Grant beat #16 Bravo, #9 Chatsworth and #4 Banning while Bell knocked off #15 Lincoln, #10 Los Angeles and #6 Hamilton.
