Juniors Kris Randall and Nick Smiley, transfers from Crenshaw and Fairfax, respectively, scored 15 points apiece to help Inglewood win the Southern Section 2AA championship with a 60-57 victory over Simi Valley Royal at the Anaheim Convention Center.

It was Inglewood’s (21-11) first section title since the NBA’s Paul Pierce led the Sentinels to a title in 1994.

Royal (24-7) led by as many as 10 points in the first half. The Highlanders held a 55-50 lead with 3:13 left after seven consecutive points by guards JR Powell and Max McCoy.

But Inglewood was able to rally, with 6-10 junior center Charles Lockwood giving his team the lead for good with a three-point play with 51 seconds left and a 58-57 lead.

Royal’s Powell had an open three-point attempt with one second left that could have tied the game but it failed.

Powell finished with 16 points, McCoy had 15 and Scott Woods 14 points and 14 rebounds. Smiley added 14 rebounds for Inglewood. Onwuasor had 13 points and Edward Scott Jr. added 10 points.
