With one simple decision, the Southern Section can solve all of its problems in Ventura County by placing Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure in the parochial area when it begins the process of placing schools in areas this fall in preparation for creating new leagues in 2014.

If that happens, Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure would be required to play in a league that’s composed mostly of private schools for all sports. The schools won’t like it for travel and geographical reasons, but that seems to be the most likely scenario in preparation for new leagues in 2014. Right now, the two schools are in the Marmonte League for football only and play in the Tri-County Athletic Assn. for other sports.

In football, it would be pretty certain that the Serra League would add Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure with Loyola, Notre Dame, Crespi, Alemany and Bishop Amat. That would be a good fit. It’s the other sports that could cause problems shifting to the Mission League.

Schools can appeal their area placement, but it’s the Southern Section and then the Council made up of league representatives that make the final decision. Anything is possible, but I’m suggesting Oaks Chrisitian and St. Bonaventure might want to start looking for electric vehicles to help with transporation costs in 2014.
