Baseball: JC Cloney gets 11 strikeouts in 2-1 win over Valencia

The top two teams in the Foothill League had a duel on Friday, and JC Cloney and West Ranch came away with a 2-1 win over Valencia.

Cloney struck out 11 and allowed just three hits. Jake Miura had a sacrifice fly and Gabe Peralta added an RBI single. Hart defeated Canyon, 9-2.

No. 1-ranked Riverside North defeated Corona Centennial, 13-8. Justin Gheroghe went three for four. Gabrial Franca and Gabriel Clark hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh. Corona del Mar knocked off Beckman, 3-2. Andrew McCormack struck out eight to outduel James Kaprielian.

Anaheim Esperanza received a near flawless pitching performance from David Wilson in a 5-0 win over El Dorado. Wilson allowed six hits, struck out three and walked none. Brad Anderson and Kevin Viers had two hits apiece for the Aztecs, who are 2-0 in the Century League.

Orange Lutheran improved to 2-0 in the Trinity League with a 6-1 win over Santa Margarita. Brent Wheatley, coming back from an injury, threw 6 2/3 innings, scattering eight hits. Conner Sullivan, Cody Nulph and Jason Martin had two hits apiece. Ryan McMahon hit a two-run home run in Mater Dei’s 7-1 win over St. John Bosco.

In the Mission League, Harvard-Westlake defeated Crespi, 3-1. Max Fried struck out 10 and Jack Flaherty had two hits. Chaminade outlasted Notre Dame, 17-10. Sam Mayall hit a grand slam. JJ Muno hit two home runs and had six RBIs for Notre Dame. Jack Welsh went three for three with three RBIs in Loyola’s 7-1 win over St. Francis.

In the Marmonte League, Chris Murphree pitched Newbury Park past Moorpark, 2-1. Calabasas upset Simi Valley, 2-1, with Danny Cagan throwing six innings and Brandon Post getting the save. Westlake defeated Thousand Oaks, 3-1. Colin Yelich hit the go-ahead double in the seventh. Kris Moore went three for three. Freshman Timmy Burtzloff allowed one run in five innings.

Agoura completed a two-game sweep of Royal, 5-3. Mark Seyler went three for three. Justin Cana hit a two-run home run.

Glendora defeated Oak Hills, 2-1. Norco received four hits from Kyle Reed in a 12-4 win over Corona Santiago. Oaks Christian defeated North Torrance, 7-2. Phillip Bickford struck out 13 in six innings. Chris Pann had a two-run double.

In the Channel League, Kenny Crawford (3-0) threw a two-hitter in Santa Barbara’s 2-1 win over San Marcos. Bishop Amat defeated Bishop Montgomery, 3-0. Parclete defeated Sierra Canyon, 5-1. Paraclete scored five runs in the sixth. Sean Adler struck out 10 in five innings for Sierra Canyon.

Cathedral defeated St. Bernard, 12-2, in five innings. Mike Palos had three hits and three RBIs. Gardena Serra defeated Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 17-0, in five innings. Dominic Smith and Vincent Butler didn’t allow a hit. Denz’l Chapman and Duncan McKinnon had three hits each.
