Harvard-Westlake Coach Matt LaCour said Tuesday that standout pitcher Lucas Giolito is ‘making extraordinary progress’ in rehabilitation following his elbow injury on March 6. Giolito suffered a sprained ulnar collateral ligament.

‘Everything is very encouraging,’ LaCour said.

Encouraging enough that Giolito might make it back to pitching this season?

LaCour said there’s no time table for Giolito’s return but added, ‘Lucas will be throwing very soon.’

Meanwhile, the Wolverines seem to have adjusted well to Giolito’s absence. Sophomore Jack Flaherty has stepped in to provide outstanding pitching.

Harvard-Westlake plays a doubleheader against Lancaster on Friday. The first game is 3:30 p.m. at Lancaster and the second game is at 7 p.m. at the minor-league ballpark in Lancaster.
