Baseball: Red-hot Darren Kriz delivers for Chaminade

Sophomore Darren Kriz has been the top batter in the starting lineup for West Hills Chaminade all season, and he continued to deliver on Tuesday, driving in the winning run with a single in the seventh inning for a 2-1 Mission League victory over Encino Crespi.

He’s batting .629 (22 of 35) this season. Kevin Lewallyn threw a complete game, striking out seven and walking one. Nick Morton matched Lewallyn into the seventh, striking out six and walking one.

Loyola withstood a rally in the seventh to defeat Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 11-9.

In the Pacific Coast League, Garret Brown had two hits, including a home run, and picked up the victory on the mound in Irvine Beckman’s 3-1 win over Irvine University.

In the Baseline League, Glendora defeated Rancho Cucamonga, 7-3. In the Moore League, Long Beach Poly defeated Cabrillo, 14-2.

In the Pacific League, Crescenta Valley defeated Burroughs, 2-1. Kyle Murray struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings of relief. Cam Silva had a two-run double.

In the Hacienda League, Bonita (10-1, 2-0) received six strong innings from Sam Stavang in a 4-1 win ove West Covina. Justin Row had a two-run double.

In the Camino Real League, freshman Bryan Duenas hit a grand slam to rally L.A. Cathedral (6-4, 3-1) to a 6-5 win over Mary Star.

Hunter Virant struck out 13 in Camarillo’s 7-2 win over Rio Mesa.
