Baseball: Cleveland goes 5-0 in Las Vegas

Junior Jack Hartman of Reseda Cleveland hit the jackpot in Las Vegas.

His team started the top of the seventh of its tournament championship game on Wednesday against Carson trailing, 7-6, with two outs and no one on base. Then Grant Shapiro and Matt Del Mundo came up with singles and Hartman delivered a three-run home run for a 9-8 victory.

Cleveland won its division after going 5-0. Earlier, Hartman hit a two-run home run in a 10-9 win over Palo Verde.

Also in Las Vegas, San Fernando won its tournament bracket with a 7-3 win over Las Vegas Foothill. Alonzo Garcia threw four innings to pick up the win.

Chatsworth was beaten by Arbor View, 13-2, in its semifinal game.

In San Diego, Luke Laurita allowed no earned runs in six innings but El Camino Real was beaten by Torrey Pines, 3-1. Sierra Canyon defeated Crawford, 8-1. Jackson Ramey and Joe Hardoon combined on a four-hitter. Taft defeated Las Vegas Oasis, 5-3. Mike Colon hit a two-run home run.

Gabe Crancolas threw a complete game in Santa Barbara’s 4-2 win over Utah Cottonwood.

Alemany defeated Rio Mesa, 15-4. Nick Suniga hit a two-run home run and Peter Van Gansen had a three-run double. Joe Moran and Matt Willmore each hit home runs in Chaminade’s 13-1 win over Santa Paula.

L.A. Cathedral defeated St. Bernard, 10-0, in five innings. Freshman Bryan Duenas was three for three, as was Matt Moran, who had a double and triple. Gardena Serra defeated Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 23-6. Reggie Southall had three hits to raise his batting average to .776.

In the championship game of the Anaheim Canyon tournament, El Modena defeated Canyon, 9-8, on seventh-inning squeeze bunt by Nathan Kuchta.

Garden Grove Pacifica defeated Servite, 3-1, in the championship game of the Anaheim Lions tournament.
