Track & Field: Loyola’s Simon wins 200-meter dash

Junior Morgan Simon of Los Angeles Loyola won the boys 200 meters at the Arcadia Invitational, edging Gardena Serra’s Darrell Fuery by four hundredths of a second in 21.90 seconds. Fuery took first place in his heat, as did Luis Matos of Santa Clarita Golden Valley, who was fourth in 22.15.

Taylor Fleming of Riverside King won the girls 300 hurdles in 43.52. Corona Roosevelt won the girls 4x400 relay in 3:59.90 and Newbury Park won the boys 4x400 race in 3:23.84. Anaheim Servite was second in 3:24.06 and Rancho Cucamonga was third in 3:24.29.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame was first in the boys seeded 4x100 relay in 41.54 while Westlake Village Oaks Christian took second place in the boys Invitational 4x100 relay, clocking 41.48. Phoenix (Ariz.) Brophy Prep won in 41.15.

In the field events, Ricky Carrigan of Long Beach Cabrillo won the boys triple jump with a distance of 47 feet, six inches while junior Rebecka Miranda of Lompoc Cabrillo won the girls triple jump with a distance of 37’ 5.’

Freshman Erin Beattie of Ventura Buena won the girls high jump with a height of 5’ 5’ and senior Ethan Cochran of Newport Beach Newport Harbor won the boys discus with a throw of 209’ 8.’
