Ajene Harris, a junior quarterback at Crenshaw, played last season at Amino South, a charter school that was facing small-school opponents such as Fulton Prep, Annenberg, Douglass, Sherman Oaks CES.

The fact he earned a starting spot for the Cougars this month and threw four touchdown passes in his first game on Friday against Corona Santiago says a lot about his ability. Crenshaw won, 43-31.

‘For a youngster, he did an exceptional job,’ Coach Robert Garrett said.

Crenshaw always has good receivers. The question is will the offensive line protect the quarterback?

With Dominque Hatfield and Mossi Johnson at receiver, Harris could have lots of big games this season with a little blocking.

Next up for the Cougars (1-0) is a Thursday night game at home against Norco that will be televised by Time Warner Cable.
