In a matter of days, if not hours, sophomore middle linebacker Hunter Mattox of Westlake VIllage Westlake is going to find himself a target of college recruiters.

Mattox made eight tackles in his varsity debut on Saturday against Granite Bay. Coach Jim Benkert believes the 6-foot-4, 240-pounder can be his program’s next big-time prospect.

He runs extremely well, has excellent coordination and he’s just growing into his body. His father, Marvin, played for Kansas in the 1980s.

Considering his size, Mattox is going to be doing lots of damange on defense for the next three years. And soon, USC and UCLA are going to take notice.
