Offensive lineman Erik Bunte, who played the first two games of the season at Santa Margarita, has been declared eligible to play immediately at Mission Viejo after transferring.

Bunte changed residences, and the question was whether the move was athletically motivated.

In a statement from Southern Section spokesman Thom Simmons: ‘Each case involving athletic motivation, as in all rules, is evaluated on an individual basis, as this one was, and after a review of all the evidence, a decision is made on whether a student’s eligibility will be affected.

‘Erik Bunte made a valid change of residence under CIF Bylaw 206, and after a review of all of the information provided by his current school, his former school and the family, he has been ruled immediately varsity eligible at Mission Viejo.’
