Football: Carson schedule is taking its toll

Who would have predicted in the same season that 18-time Southern Section champion Long Beach Poly would lose, 56-0, and 11-time City Section champion Carson would lose, 72-0?
“We have to find a way to fight for four quarters regardless whether we win or lose,” Carson first-year Coach Jimmy Nolan said.
Carson (0-4) is struggling through a brutal schedule that began with Long Beach Poly, followed by Fresno Edison, Santa Ana Mater Dei and Santa Margarita.
It doesn’t get much easier this week with a game against Corona Centennial after losing to Santa Margarita, 72-0.
“The schedule has definitely taken its toll, but I wouldn’t change a thing,” Nolan said.
It’s turning point time for the Colts.
“This is either the beginning of the end or the beginning of great,” he said.
One nagging problem for the Colts has been a series of bad snaps out of shotgun formation that has been disrupting the offense, along with some key injuries.
After playing Centennial, the Colts will get a week off before opening the Marine League against Narbonne, the City title favorite.
Nolan is hoping his team can get healthy by then.
“We’ll get this thing turned around,” Nolan said.
