The split divisions of the Marmonte League begin play on Friday for the chance to earn a Pac-5 Division playoff berth, and don’t expect Ventura St. Bonaventure to take it easy on defending champion Westlake Village Westlake in a Marmonte East opener.

Westlake (3-2), which played in last year’s CIF state championship Open Division bowl game, has lost its last two games to La Serna and Encino Crespi. The Warriors continue to struggle with inconsistency at quarterback and on defense. Reinforcements will arrive on Tuesday, when several players become eligible under the new CIF transfer rule.

St. Bonaventure (4-1) is coming off a strong performance in a 35-27 loss to No. 1-ranked Santa Margarita.

The only team unbeaten in the Marmonte is Simi Valley Royal (4-0), which plays at Newbury Park (2-2).

In the Marmonte West, Oaks Christian (4-1) is at Thousand Oaks (3-2) and Calabasas (1-3) hosts Moorpark (3-1).

The winners of each division will meet in the final game of the regular season to decide the Marmonte champion. The second-place finishers in each division will also play. Four schools qualify from the league for the Pac-5 Division. Last year, the Marmonte was in the Northern Division.
