Khalfani Muhammad gave Notre Dame a 40-34 victory with a 13-yard touchdown run in the fourth overtime.

‘It was a game for the ages,’ Notre Dame assistant coach Jeff Kraemer said.

In the fourth overtime, Crespi botched a 35-yard field-goal attempt on a low snap. Notre Dame’s Lucas Alfonso missed a 39-yard field-goal attempt, but Crespi was called for roughing the kicker, setting up the Muhammad touchdown.

Crespi (7-1, 1-1) suffered its first defeat and sent the Serra League into unknown territory. Notre Dame is 5-3 and 1-1. Finishing in the top two spots is critical, because it could be difficult getting an at-large berth as the No. 3 team.

Alemany looks in control of the league race at 7-1 and 2-0. The Warriors have won 10 consecutive Serra League games since joining the league in 2010. Alemany plays Crespi in two weeks.
