There’s growing excitement at Sylmar, because the Spartans could have one of the best young quarterbacks in the City Section in freshman Clarence Williams, who completed 16 of 26 passes for 317 yards and three touchdowns in Sylmar’s 42-36 overtime victory over Arleta on Friday.

Williams is 6 feet 1 and still growing. He has a 3.8 grade-point average in Sylmar’s magnet program. And he’s tough.

‘He’s really good,’ Coach Chris Richards said. ‘He’s intelligent. He checks off plays. He steps up into the pocket.’

Sylmar is 5-3 and ends the Valley Mission League season with games against Granada Hills Kennedy and San Fernando.
