Boys’ basketball: Tra Holder comes through for Brentwood

When it comes to top junior point guards, add the name of Tra Holder from Brentwood to any list. He came through again on Saturday night for the Eagles, making a three-pointer as time expired to give Brentwood (12-1) a 57-55 victory over Crescenta Valley in the championshp game of a division of the MaxPreps tournament in Palm Springs.

Holder finished with 25 points. Leland King added 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Westchester (12-4) won its MaxPreps division championship with a 70-62 win over Fort Bend Travis.

In a battle of Mission League teams for third place, Harvard-Westlake handed Loyola its second consecutive loss, 82-72, in Palm Springs. Derick Newton scored 30 points and Clinton Hooks made six of seven shots from three-point range and finished with 23 points. Michael Sheng had 10 assists.

In Arizona, Pacific Hills won the Mesa.com tournament championship with a 63-58 win over Arizona Corona del Sol. Jahmel Taylor scored 27 points and Marcus Jackson 20.

No. 1 Mater Dei (14-0) won the Orange Holiday Classic with a 77-55 win over Tustin. Stanley Johnson was named tournament MVP after scoring 27 points and getting 12 rebounds. Elijah Brown had 26 points.

El Camino Real won the Modesto Christian championship with a 90-65 win over the host school. MVP Julian Richardson scored 30 points and Michael Thomas 15. Alemany took third place with a 65-54 win over Weston Ranch. Bennie Boatwright scored 18 points for the Warriors (9-4).

Chaminade won its own tournament championship with an 85-73 win over Westlake. Jaron Martin scored 30 points and Jack Williams had 20 points and 22 rebounds. Larry Bush had 26 points for Westlake.

Gardena Serra won the championship of the San Pedro tournament with a 74-63 win over South Torrance. Tournament MVP Ajon Efferson had 18 points. Tavrion Dawson led the Cavaliers with 20. Oak Park (14-1) won the Ventura tournament with a 64-42 win over Canyon Country Canyon. Tournament MVP J.D. Slajchert scored 19 points and had eight rebounds.

Mission Viejo (15-1) suffered its first defeat, losing to La Costa Canyon, 70-60. Evan Zeller scored 15 points and Max Redfield had 14 points.

In Chicago, Crespi won the consolation championship of the Proviso West turnament, beating Hillcrest, 72-60. London Perrantes had 31 points and 14 rebounds. Max Heidegger added 19 points.

Fairfax defeated Yorba Linda, 51-46. Lindsey Drew had 11 points and Reggie Theus Jr. 10.

Marcus Lovett Jr. scored 38 points, but Providence was beaten by Kentridge, 69-60.

In the Covina tournament, Damien won the championship with a 59-57 win over Rowland. MVP Jeremy Hemsley scored 19 points. La Salle defeated Northview, 64-59. Milan Acquaah had 21 points.

In the Hart tournament, Hart (15-0) won the championship with a 72-56 win over Glendale. Lewis Stallworth scored 19 points. Burbank finished third with a 54-49 win over Grant. In the Santa Barbara tournament, Buckley defeated St. Monica, 45-42, to finish 3-1 in the tourney.
