The City Section Interscholastic Athletic Committee gave final approval on Monday to move from holding a small schools City championship in basketball to having Division IV and V championship games. They will join Division I, II and III finals in boys’ and girls’ basketball.

Schools will be placed in Division IV based on their student enrollment ranging from 501 to 1250. Below 500 will be placed in Division V.

Under that scenario, Crenshaw, Dorsey and Jordan, longtime City Section powers, would be placed in Division IV based on their dwindling enrollment. Each can opt to move up to Division I under appeal.

‘We absolutely want to play Division I,’ Crenshaw Coach Ed Waters said.

The City Section is expected to issue a draft list of playoff placements later this week based on enrollment numbers, giving schools a chance to appeal.
