Baseball: Ex-Notre Dame standout Chris Dickerson loves his school

One of the neat stories every year is when a former standout high school player who reaches the major leagues stays in touch with his alma mater.

Chris Dickerson, who graduated from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in 2000, has never forgotten his days as a Knight. He has stayed in contact with Coach Tom Dill, works out in the off season at Notre Dame and has been a constant supporter while playing in the major leagues since 2008.

Everyone appreciates Dickerson’s loyalty and support, and two weeks ago, when he was at Angel Stadium playing for the Baltimore Orioles, a group of Notre Dame baseball players went to the game. Dickerson paid for the tickets, and the players painted letters on their chests to spell out D-I-C-K-E-R-S-O-N.

‘This guy never forgets where he came from,’ Dill said.

Dickerson purchased the naming rights for the new Notre Dame snack shack that will open when a new field is built. He’s going to call it, ‘Snack Shack 2000,’ for when he graduated.

‘He never forgot what Notre Dame did for him,’ Dill said.
