The summer basketball season has begun, and Westchester is a team to watch. The Comets went 5-0 this past weekend in the Redondo tournament and defeated Long Beach Poly, 60-42, in the championship game.

Westchester, which won the City Section Division I championship this past season and ranks as the favorite for 2013-14, was led by returnees Nick Hamilton, Elijah Stewart and Cameron Young. Layon Gooden, a 5-foot-9 guard moving up from the JV team, also made major contributions.
