A subsidiary of Seahawk Oil International Inc. of Newport Beach has agreed in principle to participate in a joint oil drilling venture with a subsidiary of British Petroleum Co. BP Oil Exploration New Zealand Limited and Seahawk Oil Australia, N.L., Wednesday announced plans to drill one offshore well in the 5-million acre Solander Basin off the southern tip of the South Island of New Zealand. BP operates a group of New Zealand, Australian, Canadian and U.S. oil companies. Seahawk is an independent oil company that operates internationally. The joint venture agreement is subject to the approval of New Zealand’s Ministry of Energy.
