Costa Mesa : Rites for Former Dean:

Services for Marie V. Howes, former Orange Coast College dean of women, took place this week. Mrs. Howes, 80, died of an apparent heart attack Dec. 27. A Costa Mesa resident, she joined the college when it opened in 1948 and taught psychology and speech. After her retirement in 1969, she painted in oils, worked with crafts in copper and was an avid photographer. A graduate of Iowa State University, she received a master’s degree in drama and English from Western Reserve University, Cleveland. Mrs. Howes did additional graduate work at Columbia University and UCLA, where she was an assistant dean of women. She also had been a high school teacher and administrator in Iowa and Ohio.
