3 Camping Out at Ex-Tent City Seized

Share

Three men camping out on state-owned property across from City Hall were arrested on trespassing charges Thursday after they refused to leave the site that for two weeks served as a tent city for the homeless.

The removal of the men brought to 17 the arrests so far of former tent city dwellers.

Nine of 14 tent city protesters arrested Wednesday for trespassing at the Hall of Administration pleaded innocent to the charges at their arraignment Thursday. Bail was set at $500. The others await arraignment.

The 14 refused to leave the county government building after they were unable to persuade the Board of Supervisors to eliminate a rule that cuts off welfare to recipients who fail to meet job-search requirements or participate in county public works.
