A Pomona Superior Court jury convicted Francisco Gonzalez Carlos, 45, of Rosemead in the March, 1983, murder of Abel Castaneda, 32, and his wife, Mireya, 29, who were bludgeoned with table legs and shot to death in their Baldwin Park furniture factory. The victims’ 11-year-old daughter, Jacqueline, testified that she saw Carlos and his brother assaulting her parents and that Carlos hit her and her 8-year-old brother before they ran away. Carlos testified that he confronted Castaneda after the furniture manufacturer admitted fathering the baby of Carlos’ 14-year-old daughter. Sentencing was set for Jan. 14. Carlos’ 35-year-old brother, Lorenzo, of Highland Park earlier pleaded guilty to murder and is to be sentenced Feb. 20.
