Suspect Held in Killing of U.S. Sailor in Mexico
Police have arrested one suspect and are looking for another in the murder of a U.S. navy petty officer and the attempted rape of his wife, the U.S. Embassy said Thursday.
Gregory Lawless, 25, a petty officer 2nd class assigned to Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego, was shot in the throat and head. His wife Lynda was severely beaten in an attack that occurred early Sunday in a wooded area on the southern edge of Mexico City.
A U.S. Embassy spokesman said police arrested Gustavo Adolfo Alcantara Gonzalez, 27, and asked the FBI’s help in capturing Roberto Martinez, 55.
