Conoco discovered natural gas near Sacramento.

The oil company, a subsidiary of DuPont Co., reported the gas discovery in two zones of a well that is located about 45 miles northwest of Sacramento. Conoco said it tested natural gas at a rate of 7.5 million cubic feet a day at depths between 5,600 feet and 5,620 feet and at a rate of 6.2 million cubic feet a day at depths between 6,818 feet and 6,850 feet in the well. Conoco said it planned to drill four more wells in the area this year. Conoco has an 83% interest in the venture and operates the project.
