Assistant Supt. Jim Stark has been named the Carlsbad Unified School District’s interim superintendent while the Board of Trustees searches for a replacement for departing schools chief Philip Grignon. Trustees appointed Stark, the district’s assistant superintendent for business, at their regular board meeting Wednesday night. He will take over as top official of the 4,780-student Carlsbad district on March 1, when Grignon leaves to assume the superintendency of the South Bay Union School District in Imperial Beach. Grignon, who came to Carlsbad in July, 1981, announced his resignation in December.
