Calabasas Site Rezoned for 102 Condo Units

New zoning that could lead to the construction of 102 condominium units across from Calabasas High School was approved Thursday by Los Angeles County supervisors.
Board members voted 3-0 to amend the Calabasas area general plan to allow up to 10 units per acre on a hilly, 13-acre site at 22901 Mulholland Highway. The change was requested by J.H. & N. Industries of Agoura Hills.
The development proposal has drawn fire from environmentalists worried that heavy grading will be required if the property is developed for town houses. An estimated 450,000 cubic yards of earth will have to be removed, along with a number of oak trees, according to a county analysis of the site.
County planners, however, concluded that the rezoning request is a “logical extension of residential uses” of the nearby Mulwood tract.
