An Irish-born psychiatrist arrested under Britain’s anti-terrorist laws was ordered held in jail for eight days Thursday pending investigation as to whether she plotted bombings in Britain.

Dr. Maire O’Shea, 65, is one of nine people detained under Britain’s Prevention of Terrorism Act since Christmas Eve. News reports said the arrests thwarted an Irish republican terrorist bombing campaign.

O’Shea was arrested Saturday at her home in the English midlands city of Birmingham. A magistrates court in Liverpool on Thursday ordered her held for eight more days.
