L.A. Special Police Units Cited for Bravery, Service
Three special police units have received citations from the Los Angeles Police Department for outstanding bravery and service in fighting narcotics, gangs and theft.
Twenty-five officers from the South Bureau Narcotics Division were cited for recovering $66.5 million worth of drugs and for making 1,885 arrests while operating in South-Central Los Angeles in 1983.
Eleven detectives from the Southeast Police Division’s Juvenile Unit were honored for their part in a four-month task force that arrested 22 gang members in the Nickerson Gardens and Imperial Courts housing projects.
Six officers from the Newton Receiving Stolen Property Unit were commended for recovering $323,000 worth of stolen property in a yearlong project.
