Share

Lake View Terrace homeowner activist Betty Rockwell Saturday became the fourth candidate to file papers to run for the East Valley City Council seat held by Councilman Howard Finn, as candidates continued to file declarations of intention to run for office in the April 9 city election.

Gary Lipton, a guidance counselor at Francis Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley who ran unsuccessfully for the Los Angeles Community College District board two years ago, became the third person to challenge Los Angeles school board member Roberta Weintraub in her East Valley district.

With 5 p.m. Monday the filing deadline, the campaign for the West Valley school board seat being vacated by Tom Bartman, who decided not to seek reelection, remains the hottest race in the Valley. There are 11 candidates for the position.
