Retired County Official Returns as Planning Representative

Share

H.G. (George) Osborne has returned to county government. Osborne, the first director of the county’s giant Environmental Management Agency until his retirement in 1980, was recently appointed to the county Planning Commission by Supervisor Bruce Nestande. Osborne, now a private consultant and executive director of the Santa Ana River Flood Protection Agency, replaces Charlotte Mousel as the commission’s 3rd District representative. Supervisor Thomas Riley named Thomas Moody of Laguna Niguel to represent the 5th District on the commission. Moody, a member of the Laguna Niguel Community Council, succeeds William MacDougall, who resigned to take a state job. Newport Beach lawyer Ronald B. Schwartz, former president of the Orange County Trial Lawyers Assn., is one of four officers of the California Trial Lawyers Assn. to be reelected for 1985. Schwartz is parliamentarian of the 5,400-member organization. One of those working in Washington, D.C., for the Jan. 20 inaugural of President Reagan is David Iwata, director of sales for the Irvine Marriott Hotel. Iwata, who spent four years in Washington at the Key Bridge Marriott Hotel, will be a member of the ceremony task force and will coordinate catering at various locations. Al DeVito, chairman of the Fullerton College photography department, has embarked on a yearlong trip around the world with his wife, Barbara, but he will spend most of it on the east coast of Australia teaching at the Capricornia Institute of Advanced Learning in Central Queensland. DeVito is part of an Australia-U.S. teachers exchange that has brought Graham Griffin of Australia to teach at Fullerton College. When DeVito completes his Australia assignment, he and his wife plan to return via Hong Kong, Bangkok, Athens, Cairo, Rome, New York and his home city of Philadelphia. He is the second Fullerton instructor to take part in such a switch; last year, journalism instructor Larry Taylor traded assignments with Shelton A. Gunaratne for a year.
