Rosscomp Corp., a Costa Mesa maker of computer tape drives, announced Wednesday that it has sold 380,952 shares of common stock, about 2% of the company, for $300,000 to Nissho Iwai Corp., a major Japanese trading company.

The Tokyo-based corporation distributes Rosscomp’s products throughout Japan and was involved in linking Rosscomp to Nippon Columbia, its Japanese manufacturing licensee. Iwai officials said the company invested in Rosscomp because of its interest in the American computer peripheral industry.
