A University Towne Centre jewelry store was robbed of an estimated $50,000 in jewelry Tuesday night when four men, one armed with a gun, entered the store and forced customers and employees to lie on the floor while the bandits broke display cases and took jewelry, a San Diego police official said. The men entered Slavick’s Jewelers about 7:48 p.m. and used a crowbar to break display cases, from which they took mostly watches, robbery investigator Bill Dovey said. Police later found a stolen 1978 Chevrolet that matched the description of the getaway car a few blocks from the store, Dovey said. The University Towne Centre has been the target of several recent burglaries and after-hours break-ins. Investigators, however, do not believe any of the incidents are related, Dovey said.
