Southern Baptist leaders have urged the denomination’s 14.3 million members to make 1985 a year of prayer for rain in drought-stricken Africa.

“Starving millions of Africans in some 30 countries have long since passed the point at which human wisdom alone can find a solution to their agony,” said the Rev. R. Keith Parks, head of the denomination’s foreign mission board.

“Water is life. Pray for rain in Africa,” he urged.

Other Southern Baptist leaders joined in the call to prayer, and the missions board also urged the denomination’s 3,400 foreign missionaries to participate in the prayer effort.
