Seven suspected bookmakers who operated out of two Marina del Rey restaurants were arrested in raids, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department deputies reported. Deputy Mike Ford said a total of $3,300 was confiscated along with gambling records of “owes and bets.” Ford said he did not know whether there was a connection between the raids and the fact that they were carried out on the day of the Super Bowl. Booked on suspicion of bookmaking were Robert Clem, 38, owner of Clem’s Restaurant in Marina del Rey; John Costakes, 40, a bartender at Clem’s; John Muccio, 37, bartender at the Captain’s Wharf; DeWayne Morris, 25, of Los Angeles; Earl Morris, 56, of Los Angeles; Bernard Redman, 63, of West Hollywood, and Robert Schumaker, 25, of Redondo Beach.
